The Fat Man loves the Sydney-siders and he's welcoming another because joining us July 26 is Northern-Sydney boy, L D R U.
L D R U (aka Drew Carmody) found solace in music after suffering a debilitating back injury in his late teens. Now hailing from the sunny Northern beaches of Sydney, he's producing his own distinct sound and showing everyone just how much music can change your world.
He opened up to us about his back injury and how it impacted himself and career. Here's what he had to say:
"It was pretty bad physically and emotionally... I couldn't really do much but move from my bed to the couch for a couple of months and that took a toll on me for sure," L D R U said.
"But it gave me a lot of time to teach myself how to produce and my passion for music grew a lot because I literally couldn't do anything but sit there with a laptop day in day out."
Although a harrowing experience, he understands and accepts that without it, he might not have made it to where he is now.
"It also made reflect on what I actually wanted to with my life which I'm super grateful for now," he said.
After dropping his first single "The Tropics" in 2013, he's produced record after record and in 2015, he released his biggest track "Keeping Score"
The ep reached 15 million Spotify streams and a high rotation on Triple J, coming in hot as #22 on 2015 Hottest 100. It received Double Platinum Accreditation (ARIA) and three ARIA nominations for Apple Music Song Of The Year, Breakthrough Artist and Best Dance Release AND to top it off, was the highest selling Australian single in 2016 - what an achievement!
He released his debut album "Sizzlar Mixtape" which had 3/9 tacks hit 1x double platinum and 2x gold (ARIA).
